Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 5, 2025
Overview
RiftMate is designed with privacy as a core principle. The app runs entirely on your Mac, and your data stays on your Mac. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers.
Data Collection
RiftMate does not collect any personal data. Specifically:
- No account creation or sign-in is required
- No analytics or tracking tools are used
- No personal information is transmitted over the internet
- No cookies are used
- No advertising SDKs are included
Game Recordings
RiftMate records your screen during League of Legends games using macOS ScreenCaptureKit. All recordings are saved locally on your Mac in a location you control. Recordings are never uploaded to any server.
Game Data
RiftMate reads game event data (kills, deaths, objectives, etc.) from the local League of Legends client API running on your machine at 127.0.0.1. This data is used solely to build your event timeline and is stored locally alongside your recordings. It is never sent anywhere.
Network Connections
RiftMate makes the following local network connections only:
- League Client Update (LCU) API on
127.0.0.1— to detect game state (lobby, in-game, post-game) and retrieve match data - League Game Client API on
127.0.0.1:2999— to read live game events during a match
These are connections to the League of Legends client running on your own computer. RiftMate does not connect to any remote servers, third-party services, or external APIs.
Champion Icons
Champion portrait images displayed in the app are loaded from Riot Games' public Data Dragon CDN. These are standard game asset URLs and no personal information is sent in these requests.
Microphone Access
RiftMate may request access to your microphone if you choose to record voice audio alongside gameplay. Microphone audio is saved locally as part of your recording and is never transmitted externally. You can deny this permission and the app will function normally without it.
Screen Recording Access
RiftMate requires macOS Screen Recording permission to capture your gameplay. This permission is managed by macOS system settings. Screen content is recorded locally and never leaves your device.
Data Storage & Deletion
All data — recordings, event timelines, and settings — is stored locally on your Mac. You can delete any recording at any time from within the app. You can also configure automatic cleanup based on storage limits or number of recordings. Uninstalling RiftMate removes all app data.
Third-Party Services
RiftMate does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or cloud storage services.
Children's Privacy
RiftMate does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected at all, RiftMate is compliant with COPPA and similar regulations.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this privacy policy, changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Since RiftMate collects no data, we don't anticipate significant changes.
